Statistics only tell part of the story. Take the entire population of the cities of New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Phoenix, Philadelphia, San Antonio, San Diego, Dallas, and San Jose—add them all up, and more people have filed for unemployment since Mid-March. We’ve never seen a worse string of layoffs….ever. Youch.
So yeah, the statistics aren’t exactly pretty. But you’re not just a statistic—you’re you! You’ve got your own story, your own family, your own bills to pay. You have your good days, your bad days, and sometimes it all feels a little overwhelming and a bit listless.
We get it. Losing a job, facing an unexpected drop in income—it can shake you to your core. You’ve gone through the whole range of emotions by now: throwing your plant out the window (it was dying anyway), sleeping in to your heart’s content (yay!), stress baking another loaf of banana bread (yum!), and venturing deep into the archives of Netflix. It’s not all bad, but it’s not great either.
We’re here for you. Join our Job Loss Community starting May 11th. You’ll get five weeks of guidance, direction, and support. We’ll help you make your money stretch and get you feeling confident in your financial direction.
Here’s what’s on the docket for discussion:
- Cutting spending
- Budgeting tips and tricks to make your money stretch
- Grocery tips and meal planning
- Unemployment benefits
- Finding your side hustle
- The CARES act and what it means for you
This community will take place as a private Facebook Group. Each week, there will be live events with guided discussions throughout the week. If you’ve tried making a budget before or the whole thought was just too intimidating, we’ll help you wrangle this task into small, manageable chunks.
Join this community and you’ll walk away with some immediate benefits:
- You won’t feel so alone in what you’re going through.
- You’ll get the chance to ask your specific questions to our team of YNAB teachers.
- You’ll be guided through creating a detailed spending plan that will give you clarity about your next steps.
FAQs
Q: When does it start and how long does it last?
The Job Loss Community begins May 11 and goes for five weeks (it may be extended as needs arise).
Q: Do I need to use YNAB?
A: Nope! We’re not forcing you to do anything. It’ll be easier if you use it (and we do offer a free trial), but our teaching and resources apply whether you use our app or not!
Q: Is this for new YNABers or veterans?
A: Both! If you’re new, we promise we won’t be talking over your head. If you’re a veteran, it’s a great opportunity to go back to the basics and re-evaluate your budget.
Q: What if I haven’t lost my job?
A: If you’re worried about it, have an inkling, if your income has changed, or if you just want to join and cheer people on, we’re rolling out the welcome mat.
Q: Does it cost money?
A: Nope. It’s free!
Q: Do I need a Facebook account to join?
A: Yep! If you don’t have one, you can even just set one up for the community.
Q: How do I sign up for the Job Loss Community?
A: Click the link here to sign up.
Q: Do I have to commit to every class?
A: Nope! We design it so you can go at your own pace, rewatch videos at your convenience, and lurk/engage at whatever level you feel comfortable.
Pull up a chair to this socially-distant table and join the conversation as we charge through this together. You’ll come out on the other side with a solid framework for your finances that will serve you well not just through this time of income loss but for years to come.
