The brutal and senseless killing of George Floyd has caused us to pause and reflect—both as individuals and as a company. We’re committed to change and wanted to outline our initial steps—small as they may be at first—to support the marginalized, underrepresented, and oppressed.
To be honest, my very first thought was, “We’re a small budgeting software company. What could we possibly do that would be even remotely helpful?”
I’ve wrestled with that question over the past several days and realized that there is one thing we really are good at: helping people gain total control of their money. To that end, I’m happy to announce our YNAB for Good initiative. You can find more details here.
Truthfully, we don’t have all the answers, or really very many answers at all, but we’re committed to asking questions, learning, and adapting to what’s needed most.
Within our own company we’re learning to be better at amplifying these voices and working on improving diversity within our own ranks. We are fully aware that we are not the authority on the complexities and challenges facing people of color and other marginalized groups, but we want to come alongside organizations and leaders and learn from those who have already been doing this work. Our common goal: to help make financial literacy more accessible to the people who need it most.
Ever the optimists, we want to be a small part of the positive change we hope to see. We cannot erase mistakes of the past, but we can and will do better in the future.
